Abstract

The recent report about Chilean higher education published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, 2009) has pointed to serious problems in undergraduate university teaching. This paper synthesizes the main outcomes from international researches developed over the last 30 years about how university students learn, learning elements and alignment of teaching to improve outcomes. It also describes experiences from Europe and Australasia and presents their outcomes to contribute to current debate on how to improve university teaching in Chilean universities.
